Back in the 90s when I first received the Holy Ghost, Brother Vaughn Morton of Fresno, California preached a sermon called “Just Let it Unfold”. It became famous within Pentecostal circles because of a poem and song by Brother Timothy Spell. The core of the sermon was that our lives are like roses. Man cannot unfold a rose. If he does all he will have is rose petals. Only God can work mysteriously to unfold the rose that is your life and make it come out to be the wonderful thing it is.
My former pastor used to say that frequently, to just let things unfold. Because they will. God will move the pieces of your life together the way He wants them. A godly person’s steps are ordered of the Lord.
The Rose Bud
It is only a tiny rosebud;
A flower of God’s design.
But I cannot unfold the petals;
With these clumsy hands of mine.
The secret of unfolding flowers;
Is not known to such as I.
GOD opens this flower so easily;
But in my hands they die.
If I cannot unfold a rosebud;
This flower of God’s design,
Then how can I have the wisdom;
To unfold this life of mine?
So I’ll trust in God for leading;
Each moment of my day.
I will look to God for guidance;
In each step along the way.
The path that lies before me;
Only my Lord knows.
I’ll trust God to unfold the moments;
Just as He unfolds the rose.
