Victory and overcoming

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.–1 John 5:4

The more you draw close to God, the more Satan will rise up to resist you.  You have to have spiritual discernment to recognize it for the attack that it is.  Walking with God is a warfare and we must war in the Spirit.

Most of this war takes place in our minds.  Satan wants to take control of our mental processes because if he can get control there he will win.  But we have to know how to resist him in order to battle this.

The Bible says that faith is the victory that overcomes the world.  We must, above all, take the shield of our faith.   2 Corinthians 10:4 says that our weapons are not carnal, but they are mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.  A strong hold is something that has a strong hold on our minds.   We must pull these down by bringing every thought into captivity to Jesus.  The devil tempted Jesus but every temptation was met with a proclaiming of God’s word–“It is written!”  The first step to overcoming is to stand on the Word.

Then we turn to Ephesians 6 which describes the SPIRITUAL weapons God has given us to fight the battles.  These are:

  • Loins–girded with TRUTH
  • Breast–armor of RIGHTEOUSNESS
  • SWORD OF THE SPIRIT–The word of God

When the devil attacks our minds, we have to war in our minds!  We have to say, IT IS WRITTEN and stand on the power of the WORD OF GOD.  We have to lean on the strenght of Jesus and not our own.  We cannot war in our flesh.  We have to let Jesus fight the battle in us.

Whether it’s depression or impure thoughts or bad thinking, we have to fight against it and claim victory through Jesus.   We must replace this thinking with godly thinking and lift Jesus up to the high places of our mind.  The more we fill our minds with godly thinking, the more Jesus will be exalted.  We must bring every thought into captivity to Him.

Read the Word, listen to praise and worship music, pray.  Continually lift up your thoughts to Him.  And believe through faith that He gives you the victory.
